Florida Native Plant Communities

Florida's Native Plant Communities

What and where are Native Plant Communities?

Native plant communities are unique collections of plants, birds, insects, wildlife, water, soils, topography and climate, all adapted to work together. They define a natural area visually and are a powerful example of real sustainability — no irrigation, fertilizers or pesticides need apply.

This is of particular importance in permaculture to know what the plants communities are that your property is located in, so you can plant the edibles, perennials and other useful plants that will emulate the natural eco-system of that plant community. For those near the farm, we are predominantly pinewood flats zone 10 right on that 10a and 10b line.
